TRi/Y for England - PDRL Star Nick Kennedy takes on incredible challenge ahead of the PDRL World Cup

In a powerful display of determination, passion, and support for Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL), PDRL player Nick Kennedy is preparing to take on an extraordinary endurance challenge this summer.
Inspired by a previous ride from Castleford to Wembley that raised funds for every PDRL team in the league, this year’s mission pushes the boundaries even further; combining cycling, mountain climbing, and open-water swimming in a gruelling 12-day triathlon-style adventure!
Setting off on June 7th, the journey will cover:
- Over 600 miles of cycling, from the south of England to the north.
- A climb of Scafell Pike, England’s tallest mountain.
- A swim across Lake Windermere, the country’s longest natural lake.
And he’s doing it all to raise vital funds for the England PDRL team, with every penny going directly to support the squad ahead of the PDRL World Cup.
“I came up with the idea after cycling from Castleford to Wembley a few years ago,” says Nick.
“The idea is TRI, like triathlon, and TRY, like rugby.”
Nick hopes to raise at least £2,500 towards the England PDRL team’s campaign for the 2026 World Cup in Australia.
The England squad made history by winning the inaugural PDRL World Cup in 2022, defeating Australia, New Zealand, and Wales. But defending their title next year comes with a price tag.
“Last time, players had to contribute to their own travel and camp costs. And Australia’s a bit further than Warrington…” Nick jokingly expressed.
“Disabled people already face so many barriers in sport. I want to help make sure that no one has to give up their place in the squad because they can’t afford to go.”

Why PDRL?
PDRL is an adapted version of Rugby League for players with a range of physical disabilities. After losing his right arm in a traffic accident, Nick discovered the sport in 2018 and says it transformed his life.
Behind the challenge of TRi/Y for England, PDRL has been nothing short of positively life changing for Nick:
“It’s given me the opportunity to play competitive sport again, to meet friends for life, and to represent my country, something I never thought I’d have the chance to do, more than that, it’s helped me through some of the toughest times in my life.”
Through this incredible challenge, Nick is not only raising money but is also bringing awareness to incredible sport we all love, Rugby League and the community behind it, the Rugby League family.
